Hotel Information

lin Castle, home of the Knight of Glin, his wife Madam FitzGerald, stands on the banks of the River Shannon in county Limerick amidst a 500 acre demense.

Visitors are welcomed to stay between March and November, and at other times by special arrangement.

There are 15 individually decorated bedrooms each with its own private bathroom, these can be reserved on an individual basis.

The entire castle can also be rented as a fully staffed unit for events such as small weddings, family reunion or corporate events.


This is the Castle Hall with its front door overlooking the River Shannon.

The richly decorated ceiling, Irish furniture and paintings show the original splendour of
the castle interior.

The Reception Rooms consist of a sitting room (or Smoking Room) where one can sit and chat over a drink before or after dinner.The Library with its broken pedamented mahogany bookcase is situated below the rare flying staircase.

Guests can relax in the splendid Drawing Room with its Rossi marble mantelpiece - elegant surroundings in which to have morning coffee, afternoon tea or to enjoy coffee and liqueurs.

Room Information


The castle has 4 Deluxe Rooms, 6 Superior Rooms and 5 Standard Rooms. Standard rooms are situated in either the main castle house on the third floor or in the old castle wing on the first floor.

Deluxe and Superior Rooms are located in the main castle house on the second and third floors respectively.

All of the bedrooms and their bathrooms differ from each other in layout, style and decor.

The castle can sleep a maximum of 30 persons

Food and Beverage

Glin Castle food is Irish country house cooking at its best.

Dine off freshly caught fish and locally reared beef and lamb. Vegetables and fruit are grown in the castle's organic walled garden.

Sit down at a well laid table covered in crisp Irish Linen and family silver in the knightly splendour of the old dining room, with its rows of ancestral portraits.

Our main dining room can accommodate a maximum of 30/35 persons. We also have a larger room that can cater for a maximum of 50 persons. For the wedding dinner, we can cater for a maximum of 50 persons.

From Shannon Airport follow signs for Limerick. There are a series of roundabouts before you join the N18 south for Limerick city. After approximately 8 miles on the N18 there is a roundabout. Take the third exit signed for Cork and Tralee. After approximately 2 miles there is another roundabout. Take the second exit again signed for Cork and Tralee. This will bring you to the bridge over the Shannon River. Directly over the bridge is another roundabout and take the third exit signed N69 for Foynes. You are now on the south bank of the Shannon and follow the N69 for 32 miles till reaching the town of Glin. Turn left up the main street of the town (signed Athea) off the N69 and then take first right at O'Shaughnessy's pub. The castle gates are ahead of you at the end of this street. Allow 1 1/4 hours for the journey rom Galway follow signs for N18 for Limerick. Eventually you will by pass Shannon airport. Once past the signs for Shannon Airport keep following signs for Limerick. After approximately 8 miles and at the end of the dual carriageway is a new roundabout shortly followed by another roundabout recognisable by the ornamental hedgerow harp in the centre. Take the third exit signed for Cork and Tralee. After approximately 2 miles there is another roundabout. Take the second exit again signed for Cork and Tralee. This will bring you to the bridge over the Shannon River. Directly over the bridge is another roundabout and take the third exit signed N69 for Foynes. You are now on the south bank of the Shannon and follow the N69 for 32 miles till reaching the town of Glin. Turn left up the main street of the town off the N69 and then take first right at O'Shaughnessy's pub. The castle gates are ahead of you at the end of this street. Glin Castle is not signed from the N69 so be sure to make the left turn into the town. Allow 2.5 hours for the journey For a more scenic route take the N67 coastal road through Ballyvaughan and Lisdoonvarna. This will bring you past the Cliffs of Moher and Lahinch Links Golf Course to Killimer. There is a car ferry from Killimer to Tarbert which departs every hour on the hour and during the summer months every half hour. From Tarbert take the N69 east towards Limerick. After 4 miles the river will be on your left and our wall on your right. When the wall turns right up a small road as the houses of Glin begin, follow the wall. The castle gates are at the top of this road. Glin Castle is not signed from the N69 so make sure you take the right turn. This route will also by-pass Doonbeg Links Golf Course. Directions from Kerry. If driving to Glin from Tralee. Follow signs for N69 and Limerick. Next major town is Listowel and signs will be for Tarbert, car ferry and Limerick. Next town is Tarbert (9 miles from Listowel) and at the T intersection in Tarbert turn right for Limerick. This is all still the N69. 4 miles from Tarbert is Glin. You will drive with the river on your left and our wall on your right. When the wall turns right at a small road as the houses start, turn right and the castle gates are at the top of this road. If driving from Killarney. N22 from Killarney to Farranfore. N23 from Farranfore to Castleisland. N21 from Castleisland to Abbeyfeale. In Abbeyfeale turn left for Athea. In Athea town at T intersection turn right, over bridge and then left for Glin. You will come down the hill into Glin and at O'Shaughnessy's pub turn left and you will see the castle gates directly ahead.
